SANTA FE (AP) - Santa Fe Community College has a new president.
Ana Margarita Guzman begins her duties Sept. 4 as the college's seventh president. She has led Palo Alto College in San Antonio, Texas, for the past 12 years.
The college's governing board announced the appointment of Guzman at its regular monthly meeting Thursday.
She succeeds Sheila Ortego, who served in the role since 2006 and is set to retire at the end of August to care for her elderly mother.
The school, which is part of New Mexico's network of publicly funded colleges and universities, serves about 15,000 students a year.
Guzman, who was selected from among three finalists, also serves on the governing board of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities.
