CATS holds public hearing on proposed fare increase - Pet Pro Plus

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -?A public hearing on Charlotte Area Transit System?s (CATS) proposed fare increase will be held on March 28, 2012, at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center, located at 600 East Fourth Street.? The hearing will take place at the Metropolitan Transit Commission (MTC) meeting in Room 267 beginning at 5:30 p.m.? To sign up for the hearing, call 704-432-0872 or sign up by e-mail at mtcinterest [at] charlottenc [dot] gov before 3:00 p.m. on March 28.

CATS current fare policy recommends a fare increase every two years for local bus service.? ?CATS has proposed a 25 cent increase in local transit fare,? said Carolyn Flowers, CEO of CATS.? ?This increase is needed to keep pace with the cost of providing transit service.? Without a fare increase it will be difficult to maintain our current level of service for customers.??

Fares on other CATS? services will be adjusted accordingly.? The MTC adopted a fare policy in 2001. The objectives of this fare policy include making transit simple and convenient, encouraging ridership through affordability and meeting mandated financial goals.? The previous fare increase occurred in July 2010. ? ?
